Search Tips

Fuzzy Matching

The Command Palette uses fuzzy matching, so you don't need exact text:

  • whs matches "warehouse"
  • intcf matches "INT. COFFEE SHOP"
  • sh1 matches "SH001"

Multiple Terms

Search with multiple terms to narrow results:

  • warehouse night finds scenes in warehouse at night
  • Jane approved finds approved assets featuring Jane
  • sora video selected finds selected video assets from Sora

Shortcuts for Power Users

Experienced users can combine operators for precise searches:

  • proj: demo status: active - Active projects with "demo"
  • scene: day char: Jane - Daytime scenes featuring Jane
  • shot: close-up status: generated - Generated close-up shots

Customization

Search Settings

Configure Command Palette behavior in Settings:

  • Search History - Enable/disable recent search tracking
  • Result Limit - Number of results to display (default: 20)
  • Fuzzy Threshold - How closely results must match (strict to loose)
  • Category Order - Reorder result categories by priority

Keyboard Shortcuts

Customize keyboard shortcuts in Settings:

  • Change primary shortcut (default: Cmd+K)
  • Add secondary shortcut (default: Cmd+P)
  • Customize quick action shortcuts
  • Disable shortcuts if conflicts exist

Command Palette Best Practices

Learn Operators

Invest time learning search operators. They dramatically speed up navigation once memorized.

Use Recent Items

Recent items provide instant access to your working context without typing.

Don't worry about exact spelling. Type quickly and let fuzzy matching find the right result.

Create Consistent Naming

Use consistent naming conventions in projects, scenes, and shots. This makes searching more predictable and reliable.

Keyboard Over Mouse

Train yourself to use keyboard navigation. It's significantly faster than reaching for the mouse.

Power users often complete entire workflows without leaving the keyboard by chaining Command Palette navigation with keyboard shortcuts.

Accessibility

The Command Palette is designed for accessibility:

  • Screen Reader Support - All results announced clearly
  • High Contrast Mode - Readable in all color schemes
  • Keyboard Only - Fully navigable without a mouse
  • Focus Management - Returns focus to previous location on close
  • ARIA Labels - Semantic markup for assistive technology

Mobile Experience

On mobile devices, the Command Palette adapts:

  • Touch-friendly result cards
  • On-screen keyboard support
  • Swipe gestures for navigation
  • Simplified interface for smaller screens

Access on mobile by tapping the search icon in the navigation bar.

Troubleshooting

Results Not Appearing

If expected results don't appear:

  • Check spelling (or rely on fuzzy matching)
  • Verify you have access to the content
  • Try broader search terms
  • Clear search history and try again

Slow Search Performance

If search is slow:

  • Reduce result limit in settings
  • Clear search history
  • Check network connection
  • Contact support if persistent

Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working

If Cmd+K doesn't open the palette:

  • Check for conflicting browser extensions
  • Verify keyboard shortcut in settings
  • Try the alternative shortcut (Cmd+P)
  • Use the search icon as a fallback

Advanced Features

Search Syntax

For advanced users, Lazer supports search syntax:

  • AND: warehouse AND night (both terms required)
  • OR: warehouse OR factory (either term)
  • NOT: scene NOT interior (exclude term)
  • Quotes: "wide shot" (exact phrase)
  • Wildcards: SH00* (matches SH001, SH002, etc.)

Saved Searches

Save frequently used searches:

  1. Perform a search
  2. Click "Save Search" icon
  3. Name the saved search
  4. Access from "Saved Searches" menu in Command Palette

Search Macros

Create macros for complex searches:

  1. Open settings
  2. Navigate to Search Macros
  3. Create new macro with name and search syntax
  4. Assign keyboard shortcut
  5. Trigger macro instantly

Example Macro: "Review Queue" = status: needs review @me
